A former Savannah, Ga. Firefighter of the Year is only facing misdemeanor charges after allegedly pointing a gun at a black couple outside an Applebee’s restaurant

.Capt. Barry R. “Ricky” Arnold Jr. pointed a gun at a black couple in an Applebee’s parking lot after shouting racial slurs, witnesses confirmed.According to the police report, Arnold first began making racial comments about the waitress to his wife. When a black male patron asked him to calm down, Arnold responded by hurling racial slurs at him as well, then the  two men began fighting.When the black man and his wife left the restaurant, Arnold followed them to the parking lot, then retrieved a gun from his car and pointed it at the couple.

Arnold was only charged with disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, and pointing a gun at another, according to the Savannah Morning News. All of the charges are misdemeanors.A spokesman for the Savannah Fire and Emergency Services confirms that Arnold has been placed on administrative leave.Rev. Leonard Small said at a press conference that Arnold should be fired.“If this man is a firefighter working for the city of Savannah, with our taxpayers dollars and he is brandishing the ‘N-word,’ we want him off that job now,” he said.
